Professor Schmidtke has a background in microbiology and chemistry including studies in volatiles. He collaborates widely to seek better understanding of the natural world through careful experimental design, rigorous analytical measures of composition, sensory evaluation and statistical modelling. Professor Schmidtke has worked as the Director of the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre since 2016 and in late 2019 started as the Director of the Graham Centre. The project leader of DBEE, Professor Schmidtke is a member of the DBEE Steering Committee and Project Management Group and is responsible for coordination of the project themes and liasion with DBEE program managers.
